My Music

El Gorrion Y La Paloma

This here is the very first piece for ensemble I wrote. So, not too complicated (but right on the clave) with a little bit of fun in the bridge section. My penchant for parallel fourths is again visible here, although we have a whole section of illegal parallel fifths in the bridge, too.

The "Montuno"-section features a drums or percussion solo, depending on the line-up. The rather inadequate written-out percussion solo I have provided here must be seen as merely an indication of the possibilities.

An interesting detail to me is that someone commented that the bridge was very Zappa-esque, and he asked me if I was influenced by Frank Zappa. I am not, because I have never listened to it, apart from "Valley Girls." Listening to Zappa is something that is still on my to-do list.

If you cannot see the score, get the Sibelius Scorch plug-in here.
