Prélude Golriz 1

GolrizThis is another one of the pieces in the "Western Music Meets Persian Classical" project. I am extremely happy about how this one turned out. It is a difficult "gusheh" to incorporate in Western music because of the two "koron" used, which means there are two places in the scale that can't be played on a piano.

It starts out in major, so blues techniques are used to incorporate the notes, but later on in the exposition the piece changes to the parallel minor key and we get a sort of minor blues setting.

The piano part is among the most difficult I wrote (in fact, I can't play it well without extensive study) but I like the rhythm, a standard 4/4 common time measure which is chopped up into 3+3+3+3+2+2 sixteenths, creating a pulsing non-Western rhythm.

If you cannot see the score, get the Sibelius Scorch plug-in here.
